Discovered that the AC wall outlets where really cheap and brittle because of age-30 years. The plugs were not holding in of my power cords so I switched all of them out with SR-Z1s.

What the SR-Z1 did:

1) Allowed for more secure connection high-copper content brass connectors
2) Securely holds heavy power cords from Synergistic Research
3) Increase current flow but that is hard to measure just from hearing

lapierre

That is a awesome pic of the loudspeaker. Congratulations on the upgrade. Would love to see a pic of our new room.
Did the SR-Z1 make a big difference?

milpai

HI Lapierre, congrats on the new speakers. Sounds like they along with the SR stuff is really working for you.

FEQ was plugged in wall outlet. And moved around to front side, back corner behind speaker and positioned as close to center as permitted.

A/B various songs. No difference in performance.

Read SR discussion thread.

Thanks Gordon. Waiting on if FEQ is defective.

lapierre

Lapierre, are you plugging both the ground and adapter
into a wall outlet? Are you paying attention to vibration control with the FEQ? Both issues are very important.
There are other discussions of these SR products
on this site... worth checking out.

My FEQ is not centered and id on the back wall between the system rack and the right speaker because the untreated ground wire is not long enough. And everything works excellent as you all describe. You just have to get a new unit because you should notice a shift in your system immediately.

Let us know how you like the XOT's!
Thanks!

The HFTs Level Two setup improved my soundstage, separation and resolution. My resolution was pretty good before but I noticed on voice and instruments the decay is much more sustaining. Quite passages in songs and single notes have tons of depth. I played a couple of songs with flute and you can clearly hear the musician take a breath or two during performance. One thing that really stands out in my system is percussion and piano.

FEQ however, was neutral in my system. A/B FEQ several days and I could not tell any sonic difference. My placement was not centered as instructions required but I moved FEQ to several different locations.

Gladly move up to Level Three HTFs. Waiting on the XOT - Crossover Transducer.

lapierre

Good question Tboooe. I'm interested to see what you think of the HFT Pierrre.

devilboy

Lapierre, I am very interested to hear additional thoughts on the HFT and FEQ. I will be demoing these soon. Do you have any room treatments already? I wonder how much benefit I will get if I already have a treated room?

System Edited: Added Synergistic Research Level 2 HFT (High Frequency Transducer) and FEQ (Frequency Equalizer) room treatments. Observation...Soundstage has more depth and layering of instruments and voice; lower frequency has extension; mids and highs have higher level clarity. One more day of HFT listening and then I'm plugging in the FEQ.

Thanks Paul.

The Ascendo F happened by accident. I thought I was close to buying Focal Scala or Raidho C1.1 but at the last minute I could not pass on the Ascendo F. The Fs have micro details and killer dynamics. The Raidhos are great but the sound stage was more like my Dail Helcon but with limited bass. The Focal Scala I could easily live with but with lower price.

Listened to the Ascendo Ms at a friends house with VAC monos. Huge sound stage and very detail.

lapierre

Congratulation for your new speakers Pierre!

I have recently listened the Ascendo M-S S.E speakers (without TAS though) driven by some big Vitus mono block. The sound was very good.

System Update: Ascendo F replaces Dali Helicon 300 and REL sub. Dali Helicon moved to sunroom and REL moved to new home theater.

Replaced outlets that were not grounded with SR-Z1 outlets.

Foreign.

Looking at several options.

Following in your footsteps.

Trying not to make too many changes at once. Still need to purchase component rack and upgrade my AC.

lapierre

Lol! Hmmmm.......foreign or domestic? Or am I pushing too much?

Maybe SS amp?

lapierre

Maybe a hint?

System changes coming!!

lapierre

Hi Lapierre, I'm a new member in the AudiogoN forum. Always enjoy reading your threads after got my Helicon 400's and imagining how's good the sound on your system gotta be. If you would read my posting, I am trying to achieve the warmer and richer vocal apparent for example the Utopia Micro Be speakers. So I wonder would you have any experiences with the Tri Trv-845se or Acoustic Zen Double Barrel speaker cables and maybe a better jumper to the tweeters compare to bi-wired. Your opinions are greatly appreciated!

I see. Let us know when or if that a ha moment comes! I just put in the Bent autoformer preamp and it's phenomenal. I can't believe I'm saying this but my beloved Synergistic Research interconnects may go soon. I'm trying out a pair of Audioquest Colorado interconnects with the 72v DBS and I think they have more "air" and transparency than the SR. I think my next move will be a fuse for the Job 225. Keep in touch.

Things are good.

How's the system sounding?
System sounds great. Still refining my sound and trying different cables. So far no break through or a ha moments in my cable testing.

Anything new coming?
Nothing. Just trying new things to see what sticks. So far nothing.

Any thoughts on your system?
Will focus on small things first and see where it leads me. One thing that has been an issue is my room gets really hot because of the tubes and the heat does not help since the room is on the second floor. Get's a bit toasty but that will be great for winter. May look for SS amp for spring and summer use and use tubes for winter.

lapierre

So how's it going Lapierre? How's the system sounding? Anything new coming? Any thoughts on your system?

Tower of Power concert last night.

What a blast. Incredible horn section that is still amazing. Four original musician remain with the band. That is amazing...over 40 years together.
