I wouldn't classify myself as an audiophile, but more of a music lover.
With the above being said, the goal of putting together this system was being able to listen to the music, not the equipment. I feel like I've definitely accomplished that goal.
Air Tight, Lampizator and Harbeth culminate in an organic and musical sound that's simply easy to enjoy for hours on end. Jerry Garcia has never sounded better.
The 40.1's are more natural sounding, full bodied and take you into the emotion of the music. I used a REL Storm sub when I had the SHL5's, but could never get the bass from the sub to properly synchronize with the speakers. The 40.1's don't need a subwoofer and the bass is outstanding. Bass is fuller, midrange much better, highs are less harsh and are smooth as silk. The 40.1's are not everyone's cup of tea, but I like them so much I've owned them twice.
Very nice looking system! I'm intrigued by the Air Tight amp and the Lampi Big 7... both items I've wanted to hear. I've had the SHL5's previously, but not the new "plus" version. If you really want to treat yourself, find a used pair of M-40.1's. They don't come up very often, but they will take your system to the next level.
