Description

I wouldn't classify myself as an audiophile, but more of a music lover.

With the above being said, the goal of putting together this system was being able to listen to the music, not the equipment. I feel like I've definitely accomplished that goal.

Air Tight, Lampizator and Harbeth culminate in an organic and musical sound that's simply easy to enjoy for hours on end. Jerry Garcia has never sounded better.

I personally don't find Harbeth to be overly polite--provided you have the right amp.

Beautiful! I’m particularly interested in your system as I’m interested in the Super HL5’s and I also probably listen to the dead more than anything else. It seems like you enjoy the combo. I was worried the Harbeths might be too polite for live Dead

Nice. Don't tell Alan Shaw you're using tubes with his speakers - he'll likely tell you to buy any old SS amp, because they all sound the same. Poor Alan, needs to loosen up. Enjoyed my previous Harbeth M30.1's with a little ARC tube amp.

I can tell by looking, this system sounds great.

Thanks Zephyr, I tried to build a system that was musical and enjoyable. I can listen for hours without any fatigue.

Outstanding system and room,...those Harbeths and all the gear you have is great-sounding; I've not heard this particular combination but can imagine it is perfect and very musical together!

I'm lucky enough to have a Harbeth dealer nearby, I'll check out the 40.2 this weekend.

jayrossi13

The 40.1's are more natural sounding, full bodied and take you into the emotion of the music.  I used a REL Storm sub when I had the SHL5's, but could never get the bass from the sub to properly synchronize with the speakers.   The 40.1's don't need a subwoofer and the bass is outstanding.  Bass is fuller, midrange much better, highs are less harsh and are smooth as silk.  The 40.1's are not everyone's cup of tea, but I like them so much I've owned them twice.

Thanks, @pdreher

The Air Tight and Big 7 were really nice upgrades, but adding the SR PowerCell really tied everything together and took the system to the next level.

I tend to go through a lot of gear, but I'm pretty content right now. With that being said, I am really curious to hear the 40.1 or 40.2 in my system.

Since you've had both the SHL5 and 40.1, what is the biggest difference?

Very nice looking system!   I'm intrigued by the Air Tight amp and the Lampi Big 7... both items I've wanted to hear.  I've had the SHL5's previously, but not the new "plus" version.   If you really want to treat yourself, find a used pair of M-40.1's.  They don't come up very often, but they will take your system to the next level.

Thanks, Papermill.

Even though my system is pretty simple it took a lot of experimenting to get where it is today. Aside from (too much) direct experimentation with new gear, the feedback I got from fellow Agoners was essential. The Air Tight amp is a perfect example of receiving recommendations to try a new component---and having it be a perfect fit.

In looking at your system, I see you're a vinyl guy that has crossed over to the "dark side" with the Atlantic DAC--glad to se you're enjoying it. The Big 7 is my 4th Lampizator DAC and I can say that, for my personal listening tastes, it's truly amazing. I could not give a higher recommendation for their products or customer service.

Very nice system.
Clearly you've assemble your system with allot of thought and care.
Well done!

@honeyooi

The system has really come together with the new amp and DAC. I'm using the Big 7 as a preamp for the Air Tight.

Thank you again for the input on the ATM-2, I can see why you enjoy it so much.
