Description

Dears.
I´m music lover, avid Lp collector and audio fan. Living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Have experienced during last 30 years different kind of equipments (basically vintage) and now I have settled one vintage speaker system for analog reproduction and one modern speaker for digital source. Basically electronics are same, with same Line Amp, I´m using two different power amps for two different speakers.
My music room is around 8ms x 10ms, the celling is -fortunately- very high, around 4.5ms. The listerning room is connected with my Lp collection. I estimate to have around 20,000 Lps. Thanks for looking my system.

Your Tannoy loudspeakers are corner horns, which use the room corner as part of the horn.   A horn loudspeaker stops acting like a horn at a frequency where the 1/4 wavelength is at the size of the horn mouth.  A 30 hz wave has a 1/4 wavelength of about 8 feet.  A 20 hz wave has a 1/4 wavelength of 12 feet.  So for your backloaded horn to ACT as a horn down to 30 hz, it needs a horn mouth 8 feet across and the only practical way to do that is to use the room corner as part of the horn.

While your Tannoy loudspeakers do sit against the backwall, you'd also need the side wall to create the necessary horn size for true low frequency response.  As an experiment, you might try bringing in a couple sheets of plywood just to sit up against your Tannoy loudspeakers to extend the effective horn and see how it sounds.

Below the horn cutoff, the loudspeaker just acts like a direct raditator, which is much less efficient.
