Your system which is already great will take a huge step up with the Sashas, esp with Ref5se,Ref 150 and Wadia. Congrats and get your sleep now.

Yes, Slowgeezr, Nagra will sound wonderful too.

Agreed that room treatment is all about and that's what made this hobby so enjoyable.

lawence_carpio

Hi Lawence,
I've got the REF5SE and the REF150 coming into my system soon for an in home audition with my WP8's. The dealer is burning them in now. I just finished auditioning a Nagra system, consisting of the PL-L linestage and the MSA amplifier, which I really, really liked. The Audio Research gear is going to have to perform at an extraordinary level to surpass what I heard with the Nagra gear. In the end, of course, I'll purchase whichever amp and preamp my ears tell me to.
As far as differences between the WP7 and WP8, I think placement and sound treatments have more to do with their sound differences than any built in differences. My good friend Lenny's WP7's sound fantastic in his properly treated room.

System edited: Changed the listening position and gave the WP8 another try, it works ! I was totally wrong, the 8 are definitely better than 7 ! the words of better is consevative.

The 8 are more musical speaker yet retain the transparency of Wilson's signature sounding, the high is much much extended but not harsh as 7 (this were I thought not as good as 7 before), more information in the higher mid to high region hence much transparency in the mid range, better low levels retrieval, micro dynamics are much improved, mid to high listening levels is more definition and impact (can play louder without harsh), the bass is going deeper and more texture, never booming, one who expereince over bass (like me) is a matter of speaker placement only.

Some said the change of 8 is just ROHS matters, but as a real user point of view and all the changes has made from Wilson, like the tweeter, the X over, the cabinet's material, all in all, the 7 & 8 are totally different.

Pairing the 7 or 8 with latest ARC Reference gears is truely the excellent heavens made system :)

Congrats. Great system.

My room is 12 by 10, yes, in feet.

Thanks for the compliments.

Frankly speaking, I don't have intention to put away the Reference 1 until I listened the R5SE side by side in my home.

lawence_carpio

Love your system and your taste in music. We could talk for hours on the music side. Enjoy!!

linnie01

Hey Lawrence,
If you love the Ref 150, you will also love the Ref 5se. Big step up from Ref 1. Congrats

gpgr4blu

I heard W/P 7's demonstrated to great success in a 14 x 9 room. Yes that would be in feet!

Congrats Lawence.

Jeff Lorber Fusion has a new CD out called Glaxay.

Did not realize your room is painted lavender.

Cheers.

Yes, Lenny.

Removed the grill just for taking pictures:)

However, I found the layering in the Hi-Mid region / focus is even slightly better when the gill is put on.

Dear Lapierre, width between speaker is 2 m, speaker to my ears is about 2.5 m, althought in such small place, I don't experience any booming :)

lawence_carpio

Nicely done!

Thought the WP 7 required larger power amp. Listened to WP 8 with McIntosh tube amp MC275 which sounded very smooth.

What are your room dimensions and listening distance?

Spin the Yellowjackets.

Sent from my iPhone.

lapierre

Hi, noticed that you listen w/o grills. Mine are on. I've tried them both ways, but honestly can't really hear a difference. Has that been your experience?

Thanks Rumadian.

lawence_carpio

I know it's more fashionable to employ Wilson's in large spaces than small, but I gotta say that the Watt Puppy's certainly can sing well in small rooms. In fact, I'm unafraid to admit that my most memorable experiences with Wilson products have all taken place in smaller, more intimate settings. So good on ya - I'm sure the sound is fantastic!

Sold the watt / puppy 8 and bought back the 7,the bass of 8 is abit overloaded in my room and the high is not as extended as the 7.
