Description

This is the system I have worked for 25 years to build. It is still going through changes although I'm finished for now. My room is 20x22ft and the roof slants up from 9ft to 12ft. There have been some challenges due to the fireplace and the windows but have been worked out. The real challenge has been compromises that my spouse can live with. That and the fact that stereo geeks like to change things. Am I right? My wife hates that!

I too would like to express my view of a YS Audio Preamp that I picked up here for a great price.
It has stayed with me for some time now. I have tried a few other preamps, but this Audio Experience has become my favorite. I however did load it with some quality Amperex tubes. It is hard for me to understand why his preamps are not in more systems.

Most people just will not believe it unless they heard it. I am enjoying sound like I have never heard before. I do have to qualify that with the fact that I did spend 850.00 dollars on bendix 5687's and rca black plate 12at7's. but tubes can only do so much and the circuit design has to do the rest. Not to mention that you can buy the tubes with the money that you saved.

I also have the Audio Experience A2 preamp. Had the McIntosh 2200 and the PS-Audio PCA-2. When I hooked up the A2 I immediately put the other two up for sale. At a fraction of the cost the sound improvement is incredible.

rukavina

Dear Jsquattrin.

The Balanced A2-SE all use the latest version transformer (same your latest transformer) ,now.
The problem have finally solved.
Also,The latest transformer up grade the sound.

I am very please your suggest.

Thank you
Nelson Chui.

Hey Ken,
I believe I met you one time over at Jeff's store. I have to say that the preamp is really good, but the manufacturer had a problem with the transformer and it appears that he finally got it taken care of. I put in the latest transformer myself and there is a difference. It runs cooler. The great sound is there and it will get better as it breaks in. I never knew that a preamp could make that big of a difference.
The biggest thing that I have got to mention to you are the Spectron amps. I have heard the future and I will be saving my cash to to get either the stereo 650 musician 3 or the mono's even if I have to get divorced over it. I think Jeff can get a great deal on them too because of the screwed up economy.

Hello Sir,

I currently own the ASL Flora preamp (with all the latest upgrades). I read what you said about the Audio Experience A2 SE and I am serious considering ordering one and rolling the tubes, as you did, and giving it a go. We have similar audio tastes, me owning Analysis Audio Amphitryon speakers. I trust your tip on the Audio experience preamp. We both like good-value components. Could you please tell me more of your experience of the over-seas purchase, and, in what ways this preamp (with the non-stock tubes) out performes the Flora?

Thanks a million,

Ken

Yes, I did have a Flora. I wanted to go full balanced to get the full benefit of my CDP. I didn't have alot of money so I sold my Flora and took a chance on the Audio Experience A1 SE balanced preamp. It's the best preamp I have ever had. Just make sure it has the upgraded transformer.

jsquattrin

Hello,

Didn't you have the ASL Flora preamp? If so, What replaces it, and why?

Thanks a million,

Ken

I can't believe how good this preamp is!
It just gets better. Its not even broken in. Maybe its the 850.00 I spent in NOS tubes I put in it. Its the best preamp I have had and it is still improving. Depth like I have never had and low level info that I never knew existed. Give this one a chance.

System edited: I rolled the dice and I picked up an Audio Experience balanced preamp from YS Audio. The SE version which makes it their best effort. I rolled some tubes and put in bendix 6900's for the 5687's and rca blackplate 12AT7's for the cheap chines tubes. The sound is better than I hoped for. Quite a feat considering the modwright and ASL Fora that I had before. Absolutely quite noise floor. A pretty accomplishment considering its a tubed preamp. Very impressed and It still has 160 hrs to go before its broken in.

jsquattrin

thank you for showing me that I too can have a second are on my table without being connected to the table. This will allows me to have a second arm on my HRX as well.I have ben looking for a way to play 78s on the VPI. The pully will have to size for the new speed of 78 RPM. But the arm was what I need to see.

Awesome system. I demoed the Flora preamp and I'm going to buy it. I'd love to have the analysis speakers as well. Later

Hello,

What an "AWESOME" system you have there. I know exacty how awesome your system really is because I have the Amphitrons driven by a pair of Manley Labs Neo Classic-500 monoblocks (KT-88 tubes). I also use the latest version, with the new caps and high/low Phase switch, new remote, with the upgraded Sylvania VT-231 tubes, ASL Flora preamp, as well. I brought home and auditioned the VTL 7.5 V1, and the BAT VK51se, and I ended up selling them and kept the flora. I've heard the latest version Nuforce, top-of-the-line monoblocks drive a pair of Epsilons at Audible Arts, in San Jose, CA., and it's a great combo.

Well, you take care,

Kenny

Hello Narkotic;
The analysis speakers need toe-in to image correctly and get the timing correct and eliminate room interaction being that they are a di-pole speaker. The analysis and the apogees are very different even though they look similar.

jsquattrin

I've got to ask why you have such a major toe-in set in your pictures? I run a set of fully re-ribboned Apogee Divas in a room similar to yours but I don't see how you get a decent image with that configuration.

Currently my divas are 6.5 feet apart, 5 feet from the rear wall and 20" from the side walls and they sound glorious.

Just wanted to let everyone know about the extraordinary customer service I received from Analysis Audio. I had started to notice an unwanted resonance from my speakers when playing low frequency bass heavy music. I contacted my dealer and he contacted Mike Kallelis from Analysis USA. They knew exactly what the problem was. they shipped out the parts to take care of the problem and Mike Kallelis himself came out from New Jersey to California and replaced the offending grill covers and installed the latest greatest stands as well. I have never been treated this well before no matter how much money I spent. The speakers sound better than ever and I am a satisfied customer.

jsquattrin

Jeff, System is looking awesome! Gotta find time to audition,
I need to reset my reference point! Fun4jt

Thanks Ray,
I really enjoy my system. I took alot of heat from my wife over all the speaker changes so I had to make this one stick. How's your zyx cartridge treating you?

jsquattrin

Hello Jeff,Ive been offline for a while,I just read your last response on my system .I was amazed the first time I heard Analysis speakers!!!I see you were able to get the larger Epsilons!!!!!!They are the best sounding speakers Ive heard!!They filled every inch of a fairly large showroom with beautiful music! Congrats!!,Ray

Hello PSBcity,
I have earthquake putty on the bottom of the arm. I know some people use blue dot which is basically the same thing. It is an extremely strong hold. It never gets hard but remains pliable and can be reformed later if need be. The arm is not affected by the putty but makes it much more stable.

jsquattrin

I like your choice of components, I would love to hear it.
I also have the RS-A1,I was wondering how to you keep the arm stable with a tonearm cable that is that heavy?

System edited: I added a beautifully made amp stand and turntable platform from UltraSonic out of Texas. They are as functional as they are nice looking and were a bargain compared to other manufacturers out there.
