Components Toggle details

    • Environmental Potentials EP-2050
    • Porterhouse Audio 20 amp Porter Port
    nice outlet
    • Emotiva CMX-2 DC Blocker and Line Filter
First DC Blocker to actually clean up most of my transformer hum and didn't kill system dynamics.
    • wiremold power strip L10320
    nice minimalist quality power strips
    • wood component cabinet forget the model number
decently made but was not packaged very well and arrived slightly damaged. had it repaired and I reinforced it with brackets and additional wood screws. also customized it for rear access and so I could put my turntable wall mount rack through the back that actually does not touch the cabinet but looks integrated.
    • Volex 17504 10 B1 power cords
    • DIY wall mount bracket for turntable
Homemade wall mount for turntable. Made form old steel speaker stands and comes through the back of my customized wood component cabinet.
    • Nitty Gritty 2.0 Record Cleaner
Walnut. Use their Pure 2 fluid.
    • Rega TTPSU
black, separate from TT wall mount shelf.
    • Rega RP6
black, using factory black belt (white belt made the table run too fast) - upgraded factory RCAs to Furutech 126(g), strongly recommended
    • Groovetracer RP6 Reference Subplatter
Recommend this upgrade very very much. Great flywheel, perpetual motion rhythm, very quiet background and tracks dead on at 33 1/3 and 45. Using factory black belt (white belt made the table run too fast)
    • Herbie Mat Way Excellent II-2mm
Beat my thinner leather double sided suede mat by a noticeable difference. More and more refined bass, more space between the notes (better attack and decay) and more presence in a deeper and wider sound stage.
    • Magic Eraser original
just a slice between the platter and lowered stylus goes a long way!
    • Audio-Technica AT-33PTG/II 0.3mV MC
waiting for it to break in and still sounds great
    • Salience / Jasmine LP2.0 mkII
black, great 2 box phono preamp that beat out my previous Pro-ject tube phono box II with upgraded tube and also beat a Vincent Pho-8 two box phono stage.
    • Oppo Digital BDP-103
used for BluRay, CD and DVD. also receives HDMI signal from my Comcast cable box.
    • Audio Refinement (YBA) Complete tuner
    black
    • Mogami 2549 with KLEI Copper Harmony RCA
for all sources before Audio Refinement preamp
    • Audio Refinement (YBA) Pre-5
    black
    • Mogami 2549 with Furutech 126(g)
between Audio Refinement preamp and amp
    • Audio Refinement (YBA) Multi-5 amp
    black
    • Mogami speaker cable 2921 setup as biwire
    Great cable
    • Proac Studio 148
    great speakers in mahogany
    • Soundocity SEV9 outriggers
black, with spikes under the ProAc Studio 148

Using the Soundocity outriggers really stabilizes the speaker with low end response, imaging and much less likely to tip.

@itsikhefez - I really like the 2549 cable for its sound and value. I did not do any of the assembly myself. As far as I know, they are normally terminated unbalanced RCA configuration but the ground shield is lifted at one end (also called shotgunning) and this becomes the source end. Both the 126 and KLEI are great sounding plugs, the KLEI is a little more bloom-ier in imaging, warmth and bass. I would recommend making one pair each and trying them both in all areas of your system. I'm using all KLEIs before my preamp and the 126g between my preamp and amp.

@jab - Those are porcelain tiles cut and placed between the wood cabinet and the gear footers.  I think these improve the sound, maybe reducing equipment or cabinet vibrations.

sbrownnw

Under most of your items you have blond some things?

Hi! I have a question about your Mogami IC's. I've made some IC's myself in the past and am about to make some with 2549 as well.
I also have KLEI Copper Harmony and Furutech FP-126 (that I want to desolder from a previous build)
A few questions:
1) Are there any subjective sonic differences between the KLEI and Furutech?
2) Are your 2549's terminated in pseudo-balanced configuration?
3) Did you try any other Mogami? Specifically, the 2497 which is their unbalanced hi-fi coax cable?
Thanks!
P.S I live in Redmond as well :)

All detailed in my posts and responses in the speakers forum. The 148 studios are great speakers as they use the same tweeter as the response line and have better low end control than the first 2-3 response line speakers. They also have that great ProAc midrange. I use soundocity SEV9 outriggers with my setup and recommend those as well.

Ok, makes sense now. So it was not a direct order. Your dealer must have contacted the US distributor and they would have gone through the regular channels to take care of the duty and other paper work.
Can you please provide a feedback on your speakers and compare them to the Response line you might have heard at your dealer.

milpai

My local ProAc dealer in Seattle, Hawthorne Stereo, ordered them for me. They only had the Response line on the floor but a dealer can order any current production model.

sbrownnw

sbrownnw,
You have a nice setup going, especially with those ProAcs. You have mentioned that you ordered the ProAcs from the Uk. How did you handle the duty if your directly had them shipped from overseas?

milpai

Owner
Not using the hockey pucks under the SEV9 outriggers any more.

ProAc Studio 148s in place :).  Need to get a new picture up.

Some ProAc Studio 148s on order (on the boat from the UK as I write this).  Have some used ProAc Studio 125s on load from my ProAc dealer in Seattle until my speakers arrive.  The 125s sound good but they can have some loose bass and I have heard them bottom out on some demanding low frequencies.

Very nice system. I like the way you have kept the Tekton 6.5
speakers after several upgrade attempts. My system is ever
evolving but the constants are my Meadowlark Audio Kestrels
and Revel M20s. Yes, two pairs of speakers that I have used
for more than ten years. I switch between the two probably
every couple months for a different flavor.
The reason I found your thread is I recently bought a pair of
M-lores just to see what all the buzz is about. About a week
into them and I absolutely see what the excitement is about.
Can already tell though, with all of their positive
attributes, they won't replace my mainstays.
BTW, I liked your comment above about not giving your credit
card info to Agon. I never did that either and stopped
selling here entirely. Guess they got the message.
Enjoy your music.

The Tekton 6.5t monitors still win the best sound and visual fit for my room.

Fritz Carbons (non SE, 2nd crossover version) on the way :)

sbrownnw

Owner
Hope to be getting some Fritz Carbon 7 (non SE), second crossover revision soon.

I kept my Tekton 6.5t monitors. Like the punch (mid bass hump). The Ascends were a very nice speaker but did not seem as fun to listen to as the Tekton.

sbrownnw

Did you get the Ascend Sierra speakers that you mentioned in another thread? How do you like them?
