Description

My 2 channnel Stereo rig resides in the basement.

Room dimension are 14x19. The speakers are 6 10 " apart setup in an equalateral triangle.

I have the speakers 3.5 feet from the front and back walls (back wall distance varies depending on where I place my listening chair)

The imaging is solid now I'm currently working on improving overall depth and soundstaging

The room acoustics in this room are quite complicated The room is a difficult layout with lot's of restrictions. GIK Acoustics room treatments have helped to even out the room nodes

but there is still quite a bit of tinkering left

Ideas/suggestions how to further improve the existing layout and performance is welcome !

I'm glad I could help

Hi, you were correct about the sound stage snapping into place. I placed med hard egg crate foam in front of the flat screen and upholstery foam behind the system in front of the wood. The soundstage became very defined and vocals became more "human", less strident. I ran Stereophile test disc #1 to check and everything was in the correct position within the soundstage. Thanks for the input!! Sam

Hi Jim
I appreciate the comments it's nice to hear !!

These are the original Sasons. RSAD has come out with the Sason Si which are shorter and improved.

The Alethius Power cords are are revelation to me I'm absolutely floored with the improvements these cords have made to the Dodds.

musicfile

Very nice rig.

Which Sasons are these? I thought I saw another style posted on RSA's web page recently. 'Course, I can't trust my eyes much either.

I'm also curious about the power cords you installed on your Dodds. Good? Great? how?

Eric How are you
I've spoken to you on the phone numerous instances and everyone of your tweaks I've implemented with great results ..I'm waiting on a pair of Alethius power cords to put on my dodds

I'm now concentrating on shoring up my digital needs and considering some pro audio options to get me there i've heard a sample and in comparison to using itunes it's light years ahead

Would love to give you a shout sometime
Take Care

Hi Musicfile,

I think your idea of using an Ultra-Fi Dac will give you a level of space and fluidity that you would only get from a great analog rig comparably. Larry Moore, Ultra-Fi's chief designer is about ready to release his next DAC by the upcoming RMAF show. Ultra-Fi's new DAC has the most space and fluidity I've ever heard from any digital source (bar none). This is where most digital completely falls down IMHO.

Another improvement for your system is to change the EL-34 output tubes in your Dodd amps to JJ KT-77's. Both myself and others (who have compared the Kt-77's for their myriad of various branded El-34 amp varients) have found that the KT-77's completely smoke all El-34's, including the rare and VERY expensive NOS Mullard XF-1 and XF-2's (which is really saying something IMHO).

Lastly, you may want to consider Herbies tube dampeners on your input and output tubes too. My Dodd's bass resolution, tightness, image stability and image focus greatly improved with the Herbies.

Another (very costly) mod to consider is using RSAD's Althiest power cables on your Dodds, which was such a sonic improvement that I was greatly surprised how the amps gained a whole new level of refinement seemingly everywhere; sonically speaking ;-)

Thanks for the input ST

I was thinking more along the lines of Dennis Moore new Ultra Fi Dac hooked up to a mac mini
Or I could just as easily attach a high end dac to my present cdp ..not sure at this point

musicfile

logitech squeezebox duet + a dac that meets your taste in your system, your room. (waida,dcs,...?)
get a great powersupply or stay off the grid with rechargeable battery supply.

time to swap out the cd player and look at computer based options

Any ideas what I should be looking at

musicfile

Believe me I understand one early morning I did it three times, that's 3 times to the same name!!!!! Thanks for the original response, I'm trying to find a good screen cover material that will cancel the reflection and soften the sound a bit.

Hi Samhar
Apologies for spelling your name incorrectly in the above post

Hi Sandhar

It makes a big difference in terms of overall imaging. Without the panel the soundstaging is not precise and all over the place once the panel is put into place the music from the sweet spot snaps into place

GIK Traps are very good and what they do as you can see i'm a huge fan of Glenn's products

In your instance I'm not so sure it will make a dramatic impact as a panel tv does not give off near the same reflections as a tube tv but for what it costs in my opinion is worth a try

I hope this helps

musicfile

How does the panel in front of the TV change the sound, would you explain the differences in the sound with and without the panel. I have a flat panel between my speakers and have been wondering what a commercial panel will do, thanks.

Hansen Speakers have everything I look for in a speaker.
Massive Soundstaging ,spot on imaging, dynamics....

I've heard these many times ..their offices are around the corner from me

The Elixir would do fine for me ..

musicfile

I expected to see a pair of Hansen's Kings or Prince... what's your experience with these of your favorite speakers?
