Complete overhaul done on 12/20/23 by Jeff Galin at E.S. Labs. Jeff has been a Nakamichi authorized service repairman since 1975. 

Below is the outline of the overhaul:

Included in the complete overhaul process would be the removal of the cassette transport from the chassis for disassembly so that we can perform a thorough cleaning, demagnetizing, relubrication and much more!  The auto-azimuth assembly would be repaired and refurbished.  The dual capstan direct drive servo motor assembly would be disassembled and refurbished to ensure a consistent speed with very low wow and flutter(change in pitch).  The cam and azimuth motors would be disassembled to be refurbished or replaced as needed.  The reel motor would be replaced with the newer improved version  We would reinforce the nylon transport mounts with non-magnetic stainless steel hardware because they become brittle with time and can be damaged by shipping momentum trauma.  The tape motion sensor belt, tape motion sensor lamps, cassette well lamp, cam control belt, auto azimuth belt, wind idler as well as MANY other various components are aged oxidized, worn or defective and would be replaced along with other known to fail parts.  We use original Nakamichi parts or their improved versions as necessary.  Any overheated, intermittent and stressed connections will be resoldered.  The controls and switches need to be cleaned and relubricated.  We will install all the necessary factory up-grades, along with our own modifications that were designed by our staff electrical and electronic engineers, to improve the frequency response, overall performance and it's reliability.  Then, a critical precision alignment of the transport mechanics and the electronics will be performed using our Nakamichi test - analyzers, tapes, fixtures, torque gauges and other test equipment along with more than 45 years of our experience performing Nakamichi authorized service since 1975.  Before it's cosmetics have been meticulously cleaned and detailed, your machine will be quality controlled and have it's all functions tested to ensure proper operation and continued performance meeting or likely exceeding the Nakamichi factory specifications.
