For the enjoyment of music. Lot's of changes over the years. I typically won't buy something unless I can listen to it in my system. Spending a lot of time recently searching out well recorded and interesting music via hi res downloads. I have a really nice vinyl collection mostly Jazz and pop. Digital I'm filling out my classical titles and more modern recordings. Jan '16

John Both the Atlas and Proteus are great carts but if I had to choose one, hands down it would be the Atlas. A quick question on breakin of the Typhon. Is it a linear sort of process or two steps forward and a few inches backwards kind of thing ? The reason I ask is I get the impression that the soundstage is a wee bit sucked out . This happened a few days back. Pradeep
John Congrats on the Vivaldi Transport. Almost if not better than analog, if that's what you are saying , than it must be pretty amazing. Do you find TA speaker cables a better match for your Rockports ? Cheers Pradeep
John Congrats on the Schroder LT. I have always wanted to mount a 2nd arm on my TW AC, perhaps this could be it ! Am sending you a PM as I have a few offline questions etc Cheers Pradeep
John If you are on the lookout for a new tone arm, would strongly recommend that you audition the Durand Talea 2 or Telos. Plenty of happy Agoners not too far from you are plying a Durand arm.
John I am sure you are enjoying the Rockports. Do post your impressions of the Nagra vs Allnic phono stage comparison . A phono stage upgrade is on the horizon for 2014...-:) Best Pradeep
Hi John Trust you are well and enjoying your truly awesome room and system. Can you send me a mail ? Need some advice regd demo/used Wilson Max 2s vs Sasha. There are at almost the same price point. Cheers Pradeep
Hi John The changes to your room and system are awesome. Congrats. Heard you were contemplating a change in your tonearm. All the best in your search. Given the overall quality of your system , I am pretty sure you know whats good for you. Incidentally, which phono cable do you use ? Do you have any views/recommendations regd Shunyata ics ? Cheers Pradeep
John Your system pics of the Triton, actually it's a pic of the VRay 2, shows some footers. The Triton manual talks of some benefits from spikes or some other footers etc. I have a HRS damping plate on top of the Triton + 3 stainless steel cups with ball bearings under it and find there is an improvement . It's something you may want to explore if you still have the old footers etc. Happy listening Pradeep
Hi John A Hydra Triton arrived a few days back along with a Anaconda Zitron and Cobra Zitron, both pcs. Long way to go for break in but the Triton is truly amazing. Many thanks for the recommendation. Are you using any footers or other iso device under the Triton ? Cheers Pradeep
Hi Jfrech Wow your system has really evolved and I am sure it's pretty stunning. Would appreciate your advice on the Triton. Have a VRay v.1 and the last frontier would be a Triton. How would you rate the move to the Triton , say a 10% improvement , or more? Have given up trying to edit my system and post pics of the Atlas etc. Some technical glitch I can't fathom. Cheers Pradeep
Hi Jfech, Apologies for taking so long to respond to your queries regd the Skala vs Transfiguration Orpheus L comparison.I heard the new model Orpheus L mounted on a Triplanar at a dealers showroom in Singapore. I used 3 lps, SRV - Texas Flood, the track "Tin Pan Alley, Patricia Barber - Live in Paris, the track Norwegian Wood and Ben Webster - Live at the Renaissance. I am familiar with these recordings and as you can probably guess, given my range of musical tastes, wanted a cart that can handle a variety of music etc, a quality the Lyras excel at. Good as the Skala is, I found the the new Orpheus brought more weight and body to the music. I have heard it described as polite but IMHO thats not a good description coz politeness spells restraint. SRV's guitar had a raw visceral quaity with the Orpheus likewise the bass was tight without any bloom. IME the Skala was'nt even close. The Orpheus was clearly superior in terms of parameters that are important to me. There was something eerily natural in the flow of music while the Skala was a wee bit on the analytical side. I guess a more favorable comparison would be with the Titan i. The VPS is a superb phono stage that just seems to get better. Happy listening Pradeep
Jfrech Congrats on a really impressive system that I am sure sounds even better than it looks. Much has changed in your system but the Skala remains. If ever you do contemplate a cart upgrade would strongly recommend that you audition the new Transfiguration Orpheus L. Have been there, done it and am immensely happy!! Cheers Pradeep
