Hey Ryriken , it depends on the Sub. the REL works on a different principle ie it is supposed to augment the bass of the speaker (hence i have kept the crossovers at 22 hz for the most optimal sound and in the corners nearest to the speakers.
I am placing the speakers in a Corner (firing in diagonally) this give a very good depth of sound, although the width is smaller. unfortunaltey a compromise I have to live with in a 12 X 14 room.

Hello i also own a pair of Merlin TSMXe speakers. I just bought a Velodyne VMS 8inch sealed box sub. Bobby says to crossover at 50hz.I have the sub located on the left side of left speaker, even with plane of Merlins, about 24inches away close to left wall. I can not really hear the sub, also i have the volume at 1 and a half, and crossed at 50. Any recomendations on set up. Any help appreciated.
Regards
Ken

sorry for the delay in reply.

My speakers are 6 feet apart and toed in at 10 deg (as per Bobby of Merlins recommendation) i am seated around 8.7 ft away from the speakers. I did experiment with other positions but it is around here than the tones are the best

It took me months to get a good soundstage..with a lot of help from friends.

The problem was between getting the soundstage width depth and the bass right. even now the compromise is on soundstage width. (as you notice i have a diagonal configuration which gives good depth at the expense of width)

Whats your system like ?

arj

Do you have a "sweet spot" sitting position for your system? If so, how far away is it from the speakers. I noticed from the pictures that your speakers are not at a toed in angle, have you experiment with different positions for speakers to see what affect it has to the overall sound of the system? The reason I ask is I'm having a hard time going back and forth with the positions my monitors to find a good balance between focus and soundstage, so I'm curious to know your experiences are with the placement of your speakers.

BTW - very nice system..

Tube Rolled: Reflecter 6P3S-E Quad instead of the SED 6L6GCs. increase in spaciousness in the midrange. Richer Bass and smoother treble

System edited: Changed my transport to a Softone Model 3. improvement in details, micro dynamics and much richer tones

arj

Arj the Genalex KT88 is an excellent decision. Just make sure you get matched Quad or matched pairs.

Thank you for your words Lapierre,
the main changes I see are in power Supply. Some kind of a regenerator....

And if i may comment on your system, It looks fantastic and am sure sounds the same as well.

Am thinking of a Genalex KT88 sometime in the future.

arj

Well done!!! Like the components and speaker synergy.

With changing tubes and ICs what changes are next for your system?

Tube rolled the stock Sovtek 6L6GC with Winged C SED 6L6GCs. any hardness in the midrange has disappered now. the treble is a lot sweeter now although there is a smidgen redution in the Bass. but definitely an upgrade
