The stunning Technics SU-G700 integrated amp, purchased brand new from Hi-Fi Heaven on April 27 of this year. I have to rate it a 9 per AudioGon guidelines but it is indistinguishable from new. One of the finest integrated amps at anywhere close to its price and a perfect example of what a company with the deep engineering expertise and storied history of Technics is capable of doing. An amp of this caliber from a boutique manufacturer would cost three times as much and still not match what it can do. It is rated at 70 watts into 8 ohms, doubling to 140 into 4. These modest-sounding numbers disguise how solid and impactful this amp sounds - it literally energizes the room like no other amp I've had before and I've had some great ones in the last few years, including the Pass XA-30.8 and the Benchmark AHB2. The Technics also has analog inputs, including a phono built in - I did not try the built-in stage, but Technics claim it is optimized to work with its amplification.
Hans Wetzel at Soundstage compared it favorably to the $10K Hegel H-590 and he didn't even have the remote to use it's proprietary LAPC function which optimizes the amp to match the speaker's impedance curve - that makes a tangible difference for the better. Note, this is NOT EQ - details are on Technics' website. Andrew Robinson mentions in his review that it is one of the best amps he has ever heard. I wouldn't go that far, but it only takes a few minutes to realize this amp is special.
After a brief period of trying to simplify my system, I have now reverted to full-on neurotic audiophile mode and purchased a whole bunch of new stuff - an SST Son of Ampzilla 2 power amp, a tubed preamp, a new phono amp and a separate dac/streamer. I wish I could keep this for my office system, but given these uncertain times and other pressing needs, I am reluctantly letting it go. BTW, there is a world-wide shortage of these amps so chances are that unless someone has one in stock, you would have to wait to get one, at full MSRP, which is what I paid. I am willing to meet halfway within a 100-mile radius of Doylestown, PA. That will save a $100 on insurance and shipping - this is a large, heavy box.
Any questions, please ask. Lowballers will be cheerfully ignored.
Questions for the seller |

Hi, I'm very interested in this amp. But have not been able to hear it as no one has it. Have you by chance heard the Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum III? Obviously a very different tube amp but if so I'm wondering how you think the technics gu700 compares? Or have you heard better sounding amps around the 2-4k price range? If so what? Thanks. Hi,
I am very familiar with the Cronus from hearing it at a local dealer but have not heard it in my system. I do love how it sounds (usually partnered with DALI speakers) and its looks. I think the Technics is a very different amp and technologically far more advanced. I think it sounds spectacular and I have had some outstanding amps in my system, as I mention in my ad. In some ways it is like the Cronus which does sounds incredibly "airy" for being a tube amp. What the Technics does as well as any other amp I have heard is put space between the music - things sound energized and just spread apart in space. Obviously there are many contributing factors with respect an amp's sound; IMO, their LAPC function has a lot to do with its performance because it optimizes the output stage to match your speakers.
Hope this helps! |
