Description

Just inherited this system from my Father, who passed in June '02. He was the one responsible for my love of music. Right now I'm looking to upgrade the phono cartridge (I know direct drive isn't ideal) I'm not new to the scene, but I could use some suggestions.

Nico,

What's your opinion of the Cadence Xsub-12? I just ordered one. Thanks.

System edited: Just got Behringer crossover and sub. The crossover also has a multiband parametric EQ that lets me correct room nodes. Still experimenting. Review to follow. So far so good.

System edited: Just finished DIY Flexi-Rack. Well worth the effort. Much better than the Sauder entertainment center. Also added butcher block-on-cones under turntable.

System edited: Took the plunge, got off the fence. Couldn't beat the price. I plan on sending it to SACDMODS soon.

System edited: Thought I'd try the bi-wire route. Nothing to lose at $49. Since I was in the DIY mood, built some room lenses also. The room lenses realy helped add depth to the maggies. Just ordered a SONY SCD-222ES SACD player. I can't wait.

Thanks for the post. I rarely use the EQ. Only when I make tapes for my girlfriends car, never when doing serious listening. The interconnects are actually newer AudioQuest. Corey Greenburg actually gave me a pair a few years back. Grado is exactly what I was looking at. I've got the CD player on some Audioquest Isolation feet. I'll check out the isobearings. Thanks again. Any other advise is greatly appeciated.

Grado cartridge, dump the equalizer out of the sytem, make sure you have some upgraded interconnects/speaker cables as this vintage probably has less than optimal. Purchase the smaller Isobearing supports for the CD player which will clean up the attack, change the imaging and support bass. Clean up all the inputs with Caig or something similar. That's it. Great little system.
