Description

Over tweaked? Possibly but every tweak I added had an effect; either to increase the dynamic response or to lower the noise floor. What used to be flat, lifeless mutli-channel playback has become very musical with 'holographic' effects. Speakers disappeared, soundstage took on a realism before only hinted at. Frankly, I use my wife as a barometer. When she says it sounds better I know it is no longer subjective.

It's been fun to play with. Of all the tweaks I have applied the Walker Ultimate High Definition Links, (and High Def Links II), had the most dramatic effect in lowering the noise floor. But in fairness to all the others that came before, they were just preparing the way. The VH Audio power cords brought dynamic punch to the system Without highlighting any inherent system weaknesses. They are my best bang for the buck. The Quantum Symphony Pro was my first extra and as such was put into the system over a year ago. It has a dramatic effect on lowering the 'noise' floor of the video picture as well as the audio playback. For this system these tweaks work and work well but as an added bennefit I can always re-apply them as components change.

I welcome commets, suggestions for improvements, anecdotes, you name it. Thanks.

    • Sony LCoS 50
First foray into HiDef viewing and the LCOS technology blew us away. Ours has been a very reliable set with one minor artifact. In the lower right hand corner of the set there is a pale circular dot about 1" in diameter. It only shows up on a totally black background. We can live with it. (This set is being retired along with Sony dvd 999es. Next set with Probably be Sony 60" SXRD XBR. Really like the picture from their version of LCoS!)

Will be adding another dedicated filter to the a/c line of the DVP-NS999es DVD/SACD player. Am using the Magnan Audio a/c line filtration guidlines as reference. Next is DIY units for line to ground throughout the house.
    • DIY Neutral to Ground filter
Based upon diy a/c filtering instructions found on Magnan Cables (.com) web site, I have constructed 3, (so far), filters that contain 150uF, 10uF, and .47uF Solen metallized pp capacitors each connected in parallel to the neutral and ground lines of the 'noisiest' a/c circuits in my home. I am not able to state any better than Mr. Magnan has on his website about how well they work. What I can say is Try them...I do not think you will be sorry, espicially if you have digital components in your system. Two have been hardwired and one is a plug in. The one pictured here is hardwired into the furnace circuit. Until further notice, I will make these and ship them out for the cost of parts and s/h.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you! Sony 50" is first foot into hi def and has worked out very well in this regard. We like the LCoS picture better than DPL but of course it's just personal taste. NEXT purchase will probably be Sony Cineza or something equivalent, (it is getting great reviews 'right now'). Thank my lucky stars I didn't hurt the horse!

How do you like the sony 50in?
By the way, I like how you propped up your sofa with your kids wood horse. Funny, but it made my day.

System edited: Room, (14.75" x 17.5" x 8"), acoustics are atrocious. Have tried other locations for sub...this is best. Looking into ASCs Tower Traps. What I don't show is the right side of the room that has loads of reflection points and the double glass door in the rear. At least the glass is covered with pleated drapes. Anyone tried any ceiling treatments? Good/Bad effects?
