Description

So this economy has finally caught up with me. I have officially lost my full time job about 1 month ago. This has given me a lot of time on my hands. I'm actually taking a well deserved long break and enjoying myself. Therefore I have had a lot of time available to me and I am taking that opportunity to finally update some new pics of the new room. We moved in Feb of this year to our new house. There has been a lot of work done; new kitchen, new room, lots and lots of patching and painting. Good thing is, now that im out of work, i have time to finish some of the stuff that's been lingering/ But more importantly ive been listening to a lot of music. Enjoy the pics and comments are welcomed.

P.S. there have been a lot of new items added since the last system. Some of the key items have remained. Here is the link to the old room.

p.s.s. for those of you that didnt know this about me, aside from being an account/project manager by day in software (fulltime job that i just lost) I'm also the director of a French audio video magazine in Canada. Getting laid off will finally give me some time to test/benchmark some new gear. One of the things we want to do is blind test the claim over power cables... stay tuned, ill make sure to post the link to my findings on our website. Cheers...

PSSS, Im listening to Decade 3 record set cd's of Neil Young as I burn in a new set of Nordost Frey RCA between my Pre and Amp... WOW... sounds like crap right now, i hope after burn in they will sound as good as they claim

here is a YouTube link to my system, please forgive the quality of the audio/video capture, I used my Playbook and the lighting isnt ideal in this room for a cameras with light.

    • Rega Planet
Wow, great little cd player... even better that it cost sub 100$ on the local used market.
    • B&W CDM-1nt
Heaven... still considered one of its better production speakers.. i love them. They are sitting on a custom built sand filled real wood stands made by a local craftsman... weight: 55 pounds
    • B&W CDM-1nt
    Close up
    • Rega Planar 2
Got it a few months ago, been playing with different cartridges, finally settled it an Audio Technical, NIB NOS. Amazing sound. Lube it and changed the belt... fantastic, Sade comes alive on this baby. Now trying to score a new cable DIN/RCA for it, there is a Nordost Frey online for sale; not sure however if it will fit. It is sitting on a custom made granite wall bracket... we have kids in the house, hence the need for it to be secure.
    • Rega Planar 2
Another pic from the same table with the top opened
    • Rotel RT-02
RDS capable, frequency direct access, 12V trigger input, 30 direct access presets, removeable power cord, remote control AM/FM Tuner
    • Audio Analogue Bellini
At first when i picked this baby up, I was running it on a pair of Antique Sound Lab's Wave 8 tube Monoblock Amplifiers. Unfortunately, they didnt have enough guts to run the B&W, so I had to change from tube to SS. Now i know why so many high reviews on this Italian puppy...
    • Rotel RB-1080
What a diference this baby made.... The B&W are singing again, I will miss the glow of my ASLW8, but they will find a new home in the guess room with my old Aegis 1 and Arcam cd player and the nad pre... so when the guests sleep over they can fall asleep to some Bach
    • REL Acoustics T1
So at first i was happy just with my little B&W monitors. After a few months, i felt there was something missing, i felt that perhaps the lower ends of some of my discs could benefit from either getting a new pair of full range speakers, or maybe just add a sub... after several weeks of doing research and reading up of other CDM1NT owners, i decided that I would keep my babies and instead get a little sub for the room. The room is about 13 by 8 and is dedicated for music and relaxation. So i didnt want something too big, but powerful enough to give us that extra humph that was missing... well, for those of you who dont know REL, do some research... these guys know SUBS and this T1 rocks the house
    • Toshiba 19 na
An LED monitor for the apple tv 2. The only reason we use this is to stream music from our hard drives into the DAC
    • Nordost Baldur cable
not bad, not bad at all!!!!
    • Nordost, Frey, Heimdall, Purple Flare, Red Dawn MK
I dont think I would ever go to another company... Nordost rocks
    • Nordost, Frey ,Heimdall, Purple Flare, Red
    Another pic
    • Rotel RLC-104
Forget monster... Rotel Power Conditioner Helps Clean Up Your Act...
    • Custom made Sand filled
    50 pounds each
    • Beyerdynamic DT 880
    oh myyyyy GODDDDDD.... wow
    • Sennheiser HD570 Open Dynamic Hi-Fi
It was and still is a nice pair of cans, but after upgrading them to a 880dt (see pics herein) they have now become the ones i use if I go for a bike ride
    • Music Hall Ph 25.2 (Tube Hybrid) Headphone Pr
Very warm sounding, great bass and extensions, this little baby is well worth over the 300$ i paid new for it
    • Music Hall DAC 25.2
Very very very nice, been tweaking it with different tubes, but honestly my music sounds better from my Apple TV2 then it does from my Rega CD player
    • Apple TV2
    Surprisingly nice little machine
    • Sim Audio Moon LP3
    Phono Preamp MM MC
    • Rega Main Power cable Rega
Nice and thick cable, good looking too. free...

I too am self-unemployed and enjoying much music at home - I hope we find meaningful work real soon...

The youtube sight didn't work - said private.

Not to sound insulting, for those who go with B&W, what do you see / hear in them? I had one of the upper models, and found them to be rather dry, and not liquid sounding.

and they are supposed to be good at classical, right? ...which I listened to.

Many are raving about even the 685 model, but even the top models didn't do it for me - wonder why, as they can be found in many recording studios around the world...

Great looking room! You are a man of good taste...
Sounds like you are having fun though - which is important, right? Follow your bliss as they say...

Alex,
I understand from another thread that you were supposed to appear for a final interview somewhere. How did that go? I hope things worked fine and you are busy with the new job. Enjoy your music whenever you get a chance.

Alex, sorry to hear about your job. Very nicely decorated room and a good system indeed. I am curious about your room dimensions. We have recently moved and have a room 13 X 12 that I plan to use as my audio room. I have to get an opening closed with a door.

Enjoy your new home, audio setup and I hope you find a job soon. BTW, I have a supportive wife like you do (and also 2 kids). Good Luck, keep the faith and enjoy your music.

Looks like a confy room to kick back and enjoy music in. Nice pics......enjoy. BTW, I was out of work for about 6 months until June of this year. I also listened to alot of music during that time but am glad to be back at the old grindstone. Good luck to you my friend.

Oh, one more thing. We spend more time in this room then anywhere else in the house.
