Description

Not an expensive system at all but I'm pretty happy with what I have now. All the components jelled very well. Tone and soundstage-wise I'm really enjoying it. (Guess how much I spent all together on these used?)

Main music genre are Classical with some Jazz. So bass is just right for me from the bookshelf Piega.

Would like opinion on going for Tube Preamp and what's good for that. And any other recommendation. Thanks.

    • Piega C-2
Listened to a few high-end (and expensive) Piega (like the C10 Ltd.) from a few friends and has been very impressed with it. Budget constrained I end up getting the C-2, which to my surprise keeps the same tone as the more expensive model and the high from the ribbon tweeter is just ..... SWEET !
    • Piega String
Original matching stands from Piega... beautiful !!!
    • McIntosh MC-2105
This 30 year old Mac is not a high price one at all. You can get it used for < $800 these days. But it sounds wonderful and after 30 years it's still running so well. Amazing.
    • Audible Illusions L-1
    Nice, clear and warm L-1
    • Muse Model 2
I would go for the one with HDCD and Bessel if I got a chance but the Model 2 is by itself a wonderful sounding DAC in terms of clarity, details and soundstage.
    • Arcam Delta 170
The Arcam Delta series has been a legend as we all know and this Delta 170 transport is part of it. Wonderful, solid transport with great soundstage !!!
    • Monolithic Sound PS-1 and HC-1
Great phono pre-amp for the price. Make sure you get the power supply HC-1, soooo quiet.
    • Goldring GR 1.2
    .
    • Denon DL-110
    .
    • Ultimate Cables C-4
A DIY guy I know (Carl) from Quebec made these pure Silver (or now he has the 50-50 copper-silver mix) that brings out all the sound stage. This guy is good. Check him out : http://www.ultimatecables.com

Any ideas were I can get some parts for a dp-1200? The unit that controls pitch on my unit is bad.

As a direct-drive it's very quiet and working very well. Mine only have the denon arm so it has the potential with better arm. With the used price I got for this I'm really happy with it.

How do you find the Denon direct-drive turntable?

Kind regards,
Dewald

System edited: Replaced a few things recently : from CJ 11L to AI L-1, from Rega Planet to Arcam Delta 170 + Muse Model Two...

Hi Chutt. I agree with you about Kleiber's 5th. If you like the sound of VPO, you must get a copy Bruckner's 8th with Karajan. It's one of his last recordings (somewhere in 1986 or 1987). The sound is just great and you get the impression that Karajan is settling accounts with his creator before leaving this world. Goose bumps guaranteed.

Shersta : you're right on! It's just happen that the CJ pre available to me was line only and I was continuously looking for a nice pre with great phono. When I was having my Classe CP-45 back then I searched, listed as wanted in many sites for the phono card with no luck. So yes, whenever I got a chance for a nice pre with phono I WILL go for it.... what about Audible Illusion M3A :-)

Siegfried : I listen to chamber mostly but big symphonic works are no problem at all for the Piega. Great sound stage and the nice tone remains. My fav. CD Beethoven 5 from Carlos Kleiber/VPO (if you can, get the original DGG CD from Germany rather than the reissue... the so-called digital remastering ruined the sound) runs strong with all the dynamics. And play a Picture at an Exhibition from Karajan... image are soooo accurate.

Having said that, one of my colleage have a pair of C8Ltd which I listened to... with 10 time more money... yes his is better :-)

Nice rig. Ribbons rule! Very nice and clean setup. Are you into big symphonic works? If so, how do the Piega react?

siegfried

If you like your cj pre, then why not get an 11 w/ built in phono. I would imagine it would be quite a step up from your nad.

Thanks both. Txpokorski, I love my DP-1200, although it's direct drive it's very quiet and accurate. With the 301 MC cartridge it really brough back all my good memories from my youngster age when I starve and save $ for my vinyls :-)

Nice system, I just bought a DP-1200. How do you like yours, any advice on the settings?

txpokorski

It looks like you worked really hard to put all of this together and I think that you did a great job. What a great hoobby!
