The Bokken

Bokken were designed to lessen the damage caused by fighting with real swords and were used for the training of samurai warriors in feudal Japan. Bokken eventually became lethal weapons themselves in the hands of trained experts.

Miyamoto Musashi, a kenjutsu master, was renowned for fighting fully armed foes with only one or two bokkens. In a famous legend, he defeated Sasaki Kojiro with a bokken he had carved from an oar while traveling on a boat to the predetermined island for the duel.

THE BACK LOADED HORN SPEAKER

The most elegant way to enhance bass response is the back loaded horn speaker.

  • Designed to collect the back wave (which in normal speakers is wasted or absorbed) the speaker driver amplifies the bass via a properly designed labyrinth enclosure which exits the horn located on the back of the speaker enclosure. This clever design enhances turns a 4 inch driver into an effective 8 inch driver via back wave enhancement. Bass is reporducedx more efficiently and accurately than bass-reflex and sealed enclosure types.
  • Back loaded horn type enclosures make the most efficient use of such back sound waves. Back-loaded horn system enclosures work in such a manner that, as bass comes out of a horn mounted on the back of a driver, the rest of sound spectrum, e.g. mid- and high-frequency ranges, is radiated directly from the driver.
  • Speakers employing back loaded horns are highly efficient by actively utilizing sound output from the bass driver and respond well to the subtlest components of music signals. Improved transient response, speed and effortless sound quality are some of the hallmarks of this type of driver arrangement.

Questions for the seller
Could you describe the difference in sound and other traits between Mark Audio ALPAIR 7 and PLUVIA 7PHD and Fostex FF105WK, used in this speaker?
ALPAIR 7 is essentially neutral in sound not emphasizing any aspects of the sound spectrum and PLUVIA 7PHD is a bit warmer in the midbass and slightly depressed midrange and Fostex FF105WK is warmer in the midrange and more forgiving overall of harsh recordings. The speaker terminals allow biwiring or with the supplied jumpers can be used as a single pair of speaker wires. The difference in sound quality is that you can separate the Heil Transformer from the full range driver and for example use tubes on the top end and transistor or digital amplifier on the bottom end. The Carbon Daisho is more extensively braced and sound deadened by the carbon fiber. All the terminals take banana plugs or bare wires or spades. They are 5 way binding posts.
