Linn Klimax Kontrol w/ Dynamik Upgrade

No, this preamp doesn't really float above the shelf, but the quality might make you feel weightless. This is the last, and greatest preamp that Linn has made or will ever make. It has been upgraded by the addition of a $700 Dynamik power supply. The final price of this piece was $12,500 - no expense was spared in research and development, chassis construction and parts quality. I understand from my Linn dealer that there were several generations of boards - he says that this is the 3rd version or L3 as Linn calls it.

This is the Linn Klimax Kontrol reference preamplifier. It was created and is built to be nothing less than the best preamplifier in the world at the time and is still one of the most musical available at any price. The Klimax Kontrol was designed by Linn to extract the maximum of information possible from the any line level source connected to it while virtually eliminating noise. This particular Klimax Kontrol is the Silver Anodized finish and, like all Linn Klimax products, it is machined from two solid billets of aluminum. The finish, as you can see in the photos, is one of the most attractive and satiny in the industry and is set off beautifully by the chrome buttons and feet.

As a reference piece it, of course, avoids unnecessary circuitry like tone controls and strives instead for the shortest and cleanest signal path possible. But this doesn’t mean that the Klimax Kontrol is not flexible. As a microprocessor controlled unit Linn has included a large number of user programmable options. These allow you to name the inputs, vary the sensitivity of the inputs, disable unused connections, and set things like the speed of response of the volume control and muting switch, the brightness of the display and even the volume level to default to when brought out of standby. There are a number of other options as well detailed in the user manual.

All the standard controls you need are on the front panel: Standby, Source Selection, Volume Up & Down and Muting. With the included, remote control you can also access all the user preferences. The remote will also control Linn DS Streamers, CD players, UniDisk universal players and FM Tuners.

This Linn Klimax Kontrol is exceptionally clean as you can see from the photos. Electronically this unit functions flawlessly giving the extremely musical sound from any source. In terms of musicality and ability to pick up the tiniest details of the music while presenting it with a natural flow the Klimax Kontrol really brings things to life.

The Klimax Kontrol will be shipped in a Linn Klimax box with Linn packaging that is virtually identical to the original. The Linn remote control that is included is very close to the original and will control everything. I will pay for shipping and insurance in the lower 48.
