Ayre P-5xe phono, fully balanced dual-mono MM/MC phono stage with selectable gain, 50, 60 or 70dB (ballanced) or 44, 54 or 64db (un-ballanced) via internal DIP switches. Cartridge loading is set by DIP switch on back panel, one for each channel that provide the most common choices of impedance -- 100, 1000 and 47,000 ohms. Other settings available by using discrete resistors in unused rear input connectors.
The Ayre P-5xe phono is very quiet with a clear clean sound that is typical of all Ayre products. Very detailed and engaging and presents a good sense of space around instruments. There are a couple of very small scratches on top rear and on one side, barely visible and shown in photos.
